Our farmhouse in Saturnia, Fontenuova, is in the heart of Medieval Maremma, within the Albegna National Park of Southern Tuscany. The park is recognised by the EU as an area of outstanding natural beauty.
Fontenuova, which overlooks a unique patchwork of rolling hills and luscious countryside, is just a 600m walk from the hilltop village of Saturnia. Renown for its thermal open air waterfall and baths (Terme di Saturnia), this historic town was originally settled by the Etruscans and then the Romans. Today, the beautiful central piazza offers a combination of wonderful restaurants, shops, delicatessens, cafes.
Fontenuova is a 30-hectare organic farm, with its private olive grove, vineyard and woods. It’s located on a hillside, bordered by the river Albegna and the ancient Roman road via Clodia. This road leads down to the farm from one of the original Roman gateways of Saturnia.
During your stay you will be able to explore the woods and gorge of the river Albegna. Local wildlife includes porcupine, wild boar, spotted buzzard, heron and more. You will discover on the Albegna riverbanks, a Thermal Pool with water at 30° where take very pleasant baths from March to October.
Fontenuova’s peaceful location lies only a stone’s throw from the village. The far-reaching views from the farm leave you in awe of the beautiful surrounding landscape. This tranquil haven will appeal to all ages throughout the year.

At the foot of the town, there is a lush geothermal spring, with steamy water reaching temperatures of 37c°. The warm water flows across the land in what is known as the ‘Gorello’ and then becomes a waterfall with shallow rock pools that can be enjoyed all year round.
