Kinneff is known for its part in Scottish history, where the Scottish Crown Jewels were hidden after they had been rescued from Dunnottar Castle during Oliver Cromwell’s siege in 1652. The local minister and his wife devised the plan to smuggle them out of the castle right under the noses of the besieging forces, when were buried in the church for 9 years until the restitution of Charles ll.
